Making the point on same-sex adoption

If you've been reading this blog for any length of time, you know the one thing that grinds my gears more than anything is hypocrisy, specifically the hypocrisy of wingnuts. South Florida Sun-Sentinel editorial cartoonist Chan Lowe hammers home the point about their hypocrisy, and he's spot on:

Yep, the right-wingers just hate government ... until it's the government injecting themselves into our homes and families and bedroom.

Lowe elaborates on his blog:

Florida’s draconian law, which presupposes that an orphan is safer at the mercy of the “system” rather than in a loving home (if that home consists of a gay couple), is based on at least two misbegotten premises:

The first is that being gay is a matter of choice, and can be drilled into an innocent youth the same way the Chinese Communists brainwashed our boys in “The Manchurian Candidate.”

The second is that all gays must be pedophiles, or they wouldn’t want kids in the house in the first place. If this were true, then why are gays allowed to be foster parents? If you’re going to be bigoted, at least be consistent about it.
Problem is, plenty of wingnuts are totally open about their bigotry. I'm looking at you, Pat Buchanan, Lou Dobbs, and Dan Sullivan ... for starters.

Lowe's right: it's ridiculous to think that banning same-sex adoption in any way is in the best interests of the children, which after all is supposed to be the paramount concern in child custody hearings and presumably other family law matters in Florida. For Jeebus' sake, they now allow same-sex marriage in Uruguay, a predominately Roman Catholic South American country that you'd think would be vehemently opposed to it.

But Uruguay probably lacks the special brand of bigoted wingnuts that we have in the good ol' USA. Must be nice.

The cuddly side of warrantless surveillance

"We love you and want to protect you from terrorists, who want to undermine our system of laws and democracy. So we have to undermine our system of laws and democracy to protect you from terrorists."

Heh, indeed.

Hit or misogyny

I'm no fan of Hillary Clinton (until and unless she's the Democratic nominee), but this cartoon by the Washington Post's Pat Oliphant is beyond the pale. What an appalling, hateful thing to publish. The Post ought to be ashamed ... that is, if they had any conscience at all.

Oliphant, you are one sick fuck. And the cartoon's not funny.

BC Bowl: Captain America lives!

Has it really been over two weeks since my last Batshit Crazy Bowl post? I guess I'm not holding up Florida's end of the bargain very well in proving to racy mind and others that America's Wang™ is much, much more batshit crazy than Texas.

This, however, should make up for my neglect.

Comic book fans (of which I am not one) know that Captain America was "killed" earlier this year. However, don't tell that to one resident of the batshit craziest county in the batshit craziest state:

A Melbourne physician accused of groping a woman while dressed as comic book superhero Captain America has agreed to apologize to his alleged victim and never return to a city bar in a bid to avoid trial, his attorney said.

Raymond Douglas Adamcik, 54, was charged with misdemeanor battery, disorderly conduct, resisting an officer without violence and marijuana possession in connection with the April 21 incident at On Tap Sports Cafe and Lounge in Melbourne.

Police said Adamcik groped the woman and knocked her boyfriend to the floor during a costume party at the bar. Initially, he also was charged with felony destruction of evidence after authorities said he tried to flush a marijuana cigarette down a toilet while being booked for battery, but prosecutors reduced the charge to misdemeanor possession.
The news got worse today for Dr. Adamcik:

Deborah Young, director of physician services for Melbourne Internal Medicine Associates, or MIMA, the group that oversaw Adamcik's practice in their Palm Bay facility since October 1996, said his employment was terminated July 13.

In April, a MIMA official said told FLORIDA TODAY that the doctor had taken a leave of absence while he underwent counseling, paid for by the state medicine board.

The “leave of absence ... expired July 13, at which time we determined that he would be unable to continue his practice with us,” Young said. “We felt that he would benefit from a fresh start elsewhere and we felt that it was important for us to maintain our outstanding reputation in the community.”

Young said MIMA did not discuss with Adamcik his future career plans. Adamcik did not return a message left at his home Wednesday.
Hmmm ... perhaps if Dr. Adamcik had remembered this happened in Brevard County (I just noticed something: "Brevard County" and "batshit crazy" have the same initials. Coincidence? I think not.), and that sullying Captain America would not go over well there, he might have been better off.

I think he should have chosen a different cartoon character. You know, one that more closely represents what Brevard County is all about:

Tom Tomorrow nails it.

Ol' Drunky McStagger would be a lot worse off if certain Democratic members of Congress would stop enabling him.
