Making the point on same-sex adoption

If you've been reading this blog for any length of time, you know the one thing that grinds my gears more than anything is hypocrisy, specifically the hypocrisy of wingnuts. South Florida Sun-Sentinel editorial cartoonist Chan Lowe hammers home the point about their hypocrisy, and he's spot on:

Yep, the right-wingers just hate government ... until it's the government injecting themselves into our homes and families and bedroom.

Lowe elaborates on his blog:

Florida’s draconian law, which presupposes that an orphan is safer at the mercy of the “system” rather than in a loving home (if that home consists of a gay couple), is based on at least two misbegotten premises:

The first is that being gay is a matter of choice, and can be drilled into an innocent youth the same way the Chinese Communists brainwashed our boys in “The Manchurian Candidate.”

The second is that all gays must be pedophiles, or they wouldn’t want kids in the house in the first place. If this were true, then why are gays allowed to be foster parents? If you’re going to be bigoted, at least be consistent about it.
Problem is, plenty of wingnuts are totally open about their bigotry. I'm looking at you, Pat Buchanan, Lou Dobbs, and Dan Sullivan ... for starters.

Lowe's right: it's ridiculous to think that banning same-sex adoption in any way is in the best interests of the children, which after all is supposed to be the paramount concern in child custody hearings and presumably other family law matters in Florida. For Jeebus' sake, they now allow same-sex marriage in Uruguay, a predominately Roman Catholic South American country that you'd think would be vehemently opposed to it.

But Uruguay probably lacks the special brand of bigoted wingnuts that we have in the good ol' USA. Must be nice.

Today's Daily Schadenfreude

Huggy Bear.

Sarah Palin:

"Now tomorrow, I hope, I pray, I believe that I'll be able to wake up as Vice President-elect, and be able to get to work in a transition mode with the President elect, John McCain," Palin said. "So we have a very optimistic, very confident view of what's going to happen today."
Elizabeth Dole:

Exit polls showed [Democratic challenger Kay] Hagan did well among blacks, women and young voters; Dole did better among older voters, The Associated Press said.

"I was not happy with her," said Janice Henderson, 67, of Raleigh. "I don't think we got our money's worth out of her."

[...]

Last week, the race took another nasty turn. Dole ran an ad that accused Hagan of taking "godless money" at a fundraiser and linking Hagan to an atheist group called the Godless Americans. The ad ended with a picture of Hagan and a woman's voice saying, "There is no God."

Hagan responded with a lawsuit and her own ad, declaring, "I believe in God."

"I think some of the last advertising by Sen. Dole really hurt her," said Dole supporter Tony Hunt of Raeford. "It changed some undecided voters."

"The nail in the coffin was the Godless Americans thing," said Andre Wilson, 23, of Durham, who supported Hagan.
Dick "Dick" Cheney, who as a bonus gets to preside over the Senate when they certify the Electoral College's votes and declare Barack Obama the winner of the presidential election.

Shirley Nagel of Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.

Tom Feeney and Ric Keller, soon-to-be former Republican congressmen from central Florida.

Allen West, who suddenly finds himself free to be paranoid again.

Did I mention Sarah Palin?

Gina Sauber of Loxahatchee, Fla.:

Sauber said she cried tears of joy when George W. Bush was elected in 2000, so it was fitting, she said, to stand near the central elections office on Tuesday to campaign for McCain.

"I love McCain," she said. "I can't see why people would vote for Obama."
Bill Bennett, who looked positively dyspeptic on MSNBC last night.

For that matter, all of the right-wing sycophants, gasbags, and fluffers on cable teevee -- especially that fossil Pat Buchanan, who last night lamented the end of the "Conservative Revolution."

Indeed, to all the True Believers in the hate-filled rhetoric of the Right ... to those who stuck with Drunky McStagger until it was too late, then picked up the mantle of the disingenuous charlatan who literally embraced him and his ideals ... to the doubters and the racists and the PUMAs and the liars and, yes, even certain convicted felons: today's Blast Off! Daily Schadenfreude is for you!

MSNBC'n ya around, Pat

Joe Scarborough, of all people, ripped neofascist Pat Buchanan a brand new asshole last night on MSNBC's Scarborough Country ... I think the shouting match might have escalated into blows had they been in the same studio.

Video of the segment is here ... watch it all or scroll forward to 6:19 in the video to watch the fur fly.
