Radio appearance today: PaxLive with NTodd

I'm pleased and honored once again to be a guest on my good friend NTodd's webradio show, PaxLive, beginning this afternoon at 3:00 pm Eastern. We'll be discussing teabaggery, the whole Keith Olbermann craziness, and exchanging recipes.

Okay, I'm kidding about the recipe part. I think.

Anyway, just click here to listen. You can call in and ask questions or berate me or whatever by dialing (718) 766-4126.

Remember, that's PaxLive, online at 3:00 pm Eastern. Hope you'll tune in!

Too stupid to breathe: Gerry Watts

Just when I thought it was safe to read City Link again after they published last week's moronic screed about Sarah Palin comes another MBF (moronic brownshirt fuck) trying to defend the Sweetheart of the Red-eo, once again published in CL as a response to Dan Sweeney's excellent deconstruction of the Palin phenomenon. I shouldn't complain -- Sweeney warned me via e-mail. But still, the depth of stupid that is required to write such a letter (scroll down to "Reader's Corner") is truly remarkable.

Here's the letter, like last week's, in its entirety, which is the only way you fully can appreciate the essence of wingnut.

I recently read Dan Sweeney's Sept. 3 column ["Mixed nut"] and found it extremely insulting. I am a white, fairly moderate Democrat and a former Hillary Clinton supporter, though I will always support her. I would like to know what qualifies Sweeney to trash Sarah Palin and call her a nut? That is un-American and just plain not nice. What state has he ever run? Is he as smart as Palin? Barack Obama and Joe Biden between them have never run a business or been a CEO of anything. I find when people are attacked, it's because the attacker is feeling threatened. I don't see Sweeney attacking Michelle Obama for what she said about her country. Wow! What a first lady she would make!

I could give you a million reasons why I wouldn't vote for Obama. I just plain don't trust him. Talk about your Manchurian Candidate. Anyone can give a good speech. He gives a great one but says nothing. Where is his experience? No one can answer that but they sure attack Palin, who has more experience.

One thing no one can deny: John McCain is honest, patriotic and a true American. I didn't like when Hillary was criticized, when they tore down Bill Clinton and now this poor woman. What is so bad about being pro-life? Her baby would be dead if it was up to Sweeney. He is the nut.

Barack Obama is no JFK. Michelle Obama is no Jackie. For the first time in my life, I will be voting Republican on Nov. 4, as will my family — all 72 of them.

Gerry Watts
Boca Raton
One thing I'll give the Republicans credit for: they do a bang-up job of twisting words into something not meant by the speaker, but declared to be Bad and Un-American and Insulting by those in the know (meaning, of course, themselves). The Michelle-Obama-hates-America thing keeps on going, even though her exact quote -- "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country" -- never even insinuated that she hates America and, indeed, it's a fairly defensible position to take after, for example, the years of Reagan and Bush and the Clinton administration dogged by a right-wing Congress. Another example: the "lipstick on a pig" kerfuffle, wherein Barack Obama used that common saying appropriately and generically to criticize Huggy Bear's choice of Palin as a running-mate, but the wingnuts wailed and gnashed their teeth and rent their garments, contending that he was calling Palin herself a "pig." It must suck to be as delusional as a Republican.

But I digress ... let me get back to today's powerful stupid, courtesy of Gerry Watts.

First and foremost, you've got the PUMA issue right at the outset -- the (alleged) Hillary Clinton supporters who are So Fucking Mad At Obama that they won't vote for him and, in some cases, claim that they will vote for Huggy ... even though Sen. Clinton herself continues to urge her supporters to do the smart thing and vote for Sen. Obama, whose positions are so much closer to hers than are Huggy Bear's that it's laughable to even consider voting for Huggy.

Again, credit where credit is due: Huggy Bear chose a batshit crazy woman, true -- but he chose a woman, thereby intentionally muddying the water and trying to attract voters -- PUMAs and others -- who see Sarah Palin only as a vaginal-American and not as the borderline insane, secession-advocating, grudge-holding, silly-name-giving person she really is.

(By the way, my friend NTodd will be examining the PUMA phenomenon today on his radio show, PaxLive, at 3pm Eastern -- don't miss it!)

Dammit, I did it again ... okay, back to Watts.

Has Sweeney ever run a state? No. Have you, Gerry? No. Neither have I. But none of us are trying to be vice president, and for that high a position, generally it takes more than two years running a tiny (population-wise) state as a personal fiefdom, preceded by four years as the near-totalitarian mayor of a town small enough to fit completely in most Florida high school football stadiums.

Which brings us to the experience question. Somehow, Republicans (and deluded alleged Democrats like you, Gerry) seem to think that Barack Obama just fell out of the sky when he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004. They conveniently forget, for starters, the nearly eight years he previously spent as a state senator in Illinois. He took office there in 1997, at which time Sarah Palin had been mayor of Wasilla, Alaska (population in 2000, 5,469; population in 1990, 4,028) for a year, after four years on the Wasilla City Council. By way of comparison, the average population of an Illinois state senate district is over 217,000. While Obama was a student at Harvard Law School, Palin was a sports reporter for an Anchorage television station. So, Gerry, you can take your experience argument and shove it up your ass. "Where is his experience?" Well, now you know -- if you followed my directions, it's up your ass.

And you say, Gerry, apparently without irony, "John McCain is honest." Well, maybe that depends on your definition of "honest." Can a candidate for president lie 60 times (to date) during his campaign and still be "honest?" If so, Gerry, then I guess you're right, by your standards. But I think most people would look at 60 lies and declare the person who told those lies "dishonest."

"What is so bad about being pro-life?" Well, frankly, nothing especially, I suppose. The problem is when the pro-life people tell the pro-choice people that they aren't allowed to make decisions about their own bodies. If you're pro-life, that's cool. Just don't tell women that you deserve to have control over their bodies! That's what Sarah Palin wants, you know -- for herself and her political cronies to have control over the bodies of American women. That's not pro-life -- that's pro-Nazi, Gerry.

"Barack Obama is no JFK. Michelle Obama is no Jackie." Nice strawman there, Jackie. Did anyone claim they were? No. You just made that shit up out of thin air so you could use your own strawman to oppose the Obamas. Frankly, Gerry, your argument skills suck ass. I mean, even fucking Jorge Velez, stupid though he was, could put together a cogent -- albeit fucking ridiculous -- argument.

And 72 members of your family? What are you, the Osmonds? Actually, given your hypermoralistic, shallow, oblivious opinions, that actually would make some sense.

Please shut the fuck up, Gerry Watts. Oh, and Dan Sweeney? Please ask your editors not to publish anymore batshit crazy letters from people attacking your column. I mean, I know morons like that are out there ... I don't have to be reminded how stupid they are every week in City Link! (Thanks in advance ...)

Thank you, Liz and NTodd

I'd just like to take a moment to thank my guests on today's Blast Off! Radio First Anniversary Show, Liz of Code Pink and NTodd of Pax Americana and Dohiyi Mir.

This first hour-long edition went smoothly and was great fun, too. I hope you listeners found it informative and interesting ... and more importantly, I hope you will join me again next week, Monday at 4:00 pm Eastern.

If you missed all or part of the show, you can listen to the archived version at your convenience.

Blast Off! Radio moves to a new time, 4:00 pm EDT today: The First Anniversary Show with special guests from Code Pink

This is the one.

If you have never listened to Blast Off! Radio ... if you swore you'd only listen to that sucky radio show once, and only if you were going to be waterboarded otherwise ... if you listen to just one radio show in your life -- this is the one to hear.

Blast Off! Radio is one year old! And to commemorate its first anniversary, the show is making some big changes!

New time!
New length!
New format!
(Sadly, not a new host ... but you can't win 'em all, y'know.)

This afternoon, Blast Off! Radio moves to its new time slot, 4:00 pm Eastern time on Mondays, and to a new one-hour-long format. Yes, all the snark you've come to know and love tolerate endure, but twice as much as before!

Today on BO!R, we'll examine the Code Pink phenomenon. What is it that makes their protests so controversial? And are they making a difference -- or is there madness to their method? Joining us on the show today will be Code Pink advocate and blogger NTodd of the blogs Dohiyi Mir and Pax Americana, as well as Code Pink organizer and activist Liz, and they'll take your questions and comments.

How can you get your questions and comments heard? It's easy:

NEW TIME: 4:00 pm Eastern TODAY
Call in number: (646) 716-7543

It's been a fun first year, but as we start the second year of Blast Off! Radio, it promises to be even better. Get your questions and comments ready, and we'll catch you this afternoon ...

Blast Off! Radio preview: new time, new format, and GUESTS!

Just wanted to give all you good folks a heads-up about the changes coming on Monday, as Blast Off! Radio marks its first anniversary with a few changes that I hope you'll enjoy.

First, the time of the show. Traditionally, Blast Off! Radio has aired live at 2:00 pm Eastern, with archived shows always available on the left sidebar here. However, I've noticed an increase in listenership and participation when I've occasionally run it at other times, for example, 4:00 pm or 7:00 pm. So, beginning this Monday, July 28, Blast Off! Radio moves to its new time, 4:00 pm Eastern time. I hope this will give more people a chance to listen in live and to participate by calling in, e-mailing, or chatting.

Second, as you may already know, the show will be extended to one hour beginning Monday. This is a move I've been considering for some time, and I've gotten a lot of positive feedback when I've brought it up for discussion. So, you asked for it, you got it: one hour of Blast Off! Radio every Monday starting July 28.

Finally, I'm hoping to be able to do more in the way of having guests and interviews and such. While I'll never achieve the success of the Quinnell/Morano "Big Show" or "The Mark Weaver Show," a couple of BO!R's sister shows on the Florida Progressive Radio network, in that regard, I'm going to start the show's second year with a bang: Monday's show will feature guests from the Code Pink organization, known for protesting raucously at (and being kicked out of) everything from congressional hearings to last week's Netroots Nation in Austin. Details are still being put together, but I can confirm that one guest will be my good friend, the inimitable NTodd of Dohiyi Mir and Pax Americana. Stay tuned for more information.

So, to sum up:

Blast Off! Radio
Monday, July 28
4:00 to 5:00 pm Eastern
Guests: representatives of Code Pink including NTodd

I'll pimp it in the customary way on Monday ... but put it on your calendar now!

Puppysitting

Apologies for the slow blogday thus far today. I've been tending to my houseguests this morning.

Lucy and her babies are staying at Chez Sinfonian for a few days. The Puppy Who Will Be Mine, Suri*, is the one in the middle, on her back.

Teh cute!

* After much thought, I have decided to modify NTodd's suggestion slightly and call her "Suri," which is short for "SURINAME!" (old Jeopardy! joke -- don't ask) and also according to this website is may be (see comments) Hebrew for "princess." Yes, I know about the Tom Cruise connection, but I prefer not to think much about that.

Where Larry Craig got his ideas

You learn the most interesting things from other bloggers.

I was out last night at Hecate's den with racy mind, sittenpretty, and the inimitable Quaker motherfucker NTodd, and of course the conversation -- and flavored vodka (courtesy of sittenpretty) -- flowed in copious amounts.

So racy mind explains that the Larry Craig incident, with its bathroom stall, its foot-tapping, and its attempted note exchange (see, I think that's why Larry was "waving his hand" underneath the stall wall), sounded a lot like something she'd read some years ago. NTodd quotes the relevant passage in his post titled, as only he can, "Does This Cock In My Mouth Make Me Look Gay?"

RM remembered a book--Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask by Dr. David Reuben--she read when she was a kid that had this valuable information:

The next common variety of homosexual behavior is oral intercourse. This is also known as fellatio, which means the same thing except in another language. In this variation, one man sucks the penis the other. Sometimes they then reverse roles, sometimes not.

Generally the circumstances are far from romantic. According to one homosexual, it goes something like this:

“Whenever I feel like sex, I drive down to the bowling alley. I walk into the men’s room, find an empty cubicle, go in, take down my pants, and sit on the toilet. Then I wait. It never takes very long.

Pretty soon another guy sits down in the next cubicle. I watch his feet. If he’s a gay guy, he’ll slide his foot over and kind of nudge mine. That means he’s ‘cruising.’ If I’m interested, I nudge back. Then we get started.

I always use a piece of toilet paper to write some kind of note—usually I just say ‘Do you suck?’ Sometimes if I have plenty of time I add something else like, ‘How big are you?’ I throw the paper on the floor, he picks it up, comes over into my cubicle, and sucks my penis. That’s how it ends — sometimes I suck his penis but usually I just go home.”
Um ... holy shit. Wow. Why has this not been widely disseminated yet?

People, despite his denials, Larry Craig didn't come up with this routine by himself. It's practically a custom if you want anonymous gay sex. And the problem, of course, is not that he's gay or engages in gay sex. The problem is that he insists he isn't gay, and that he simply has a "wide stance." Larry, a 40-year-old book begs to differ.

Leave it to the "liberal media" to be right on top of this story. So to speak.

Headline of the day (phallic edition)

In an effort to give equal time to other body parts after yesterday's tea bag incident (don't ask), here's a celebration of, um, monumental achievements:

I'm not taking the fucking pledge!

I'm proud to declare Blast Off! an Officially Certified Incivil Blog™.

There's been a code of conduct promulgated for bloggers, and I'm defiantly opposed to it. Instead, I prefer this non-pledge from a non-blog:

We fucking celebrate the blogosphere because it embraces words like 'fuck' and open conversation. But frankness does not have to mean we can't have fun and swear like sailors. We present this Holy Fucking Pledge in hopes that it helps create a culture that encourages both personal expression and constructive conversation. One can say naughty words and insult one's mom without losing points in the discussion.

1. We take responsibility for our own words and reserve the right to call stupid people names when they fucking annoy us.

2. We won't tell anybody to fuck off if we wouldn't tell them to fuck off in person.

3. If tensions escalate, we will start a metablogpissingmatch, if only to generate traffic.

4. When we believe someone is unfairly attacking another, we escalate and get more personal and nasty.

5. We allow anonymous comments because who the fuck really cares? It's a goddamned blog.

6. We troll other sites for shits and giggles.

7. We encourage parody sites because if you can't take a fucking joke, you're a goddamned moran and shouldn't be blogging.
Look, a blog is a blog. Nothing more. It's a place for a blogger like me to rant about anything I want. I'm fortunate to have some regular readers (and commenters, which I lurrrrrrrve), and blogging has given me a chance to meet some really terrific people in places like Nashville, Tallahassee, and New Orleans.

But it's a blog. Whether or not I'm civil has nothing to do with anything. Besides, why should I be civil when the Vice Fucking President is telling a senator to go fuck himself and when the Fucking Preznit is referring to a member of the press as a "major-league asshole?" Bill Donohue might have gotten John Edwards to kowtow, but not me, ace.

Fuck civility. I'm uncivil, and that's the way it goes. Deal with it.

Atlas Juggs hearts John Bolton

The Mustache Rider rides again ... or does she?

Kudos to NTodd of Dohiyi Mir (the non-existent blog) and to a certain aquatic feline from Dependable Renegade. This perfectly captures the rank hypocrisy and obsequious prattling of Ms. Atlas.

Although the lighting and sound could have been a little better ...
