To an anonymous commenter, with love
I always enjoy when I get comments that test my intellectual consistency. One of those came today, on the Anderson Cooper video thread (although I think it really was intended to go with the Bush pardon thread), when an anonymous commenter (why are they always anonymous? Not even a cute pseudonym for the blog's sake?) wrote this pearl of wisdom:
You give libby a pass, but then call the greatest president in the 21st century "Drunky McStagger" when he hasnt drank in 20 years?
wow..just wow
Let me dispense with the "give libby a pass" thing first, because that's the only part of the comment that isn't batshit insane -- misguided, maybe, but not batshit insane. I never gave Scooter Libby a pass; I merely wanted to explain why he wasn't pardoned, and as I noted, it most likely was because Drunky McStagger didn't want to take away Libby's (or anyone else's) Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination. Libby's still a douchebag, and he remains to date the only member of the Bush crime syndicate who actually has been convicted for wrongdoing. Justice demands more, but for now, that's the situation.
As for the rest of the comment, well, Anonymous, you're just an idiot. "Greatest president of the 21st Century" isn't saying much, considering that Clinton was president for just 20 days of the 21st Century (remember, the century began on January 1, 2001; don't make me do the math for you) and Obama has been president for a mere seven days. For all intents and purposes, Drunky is the only president of the 21st Century ... so far, anyway. As of today, his presidency covers the entire century thus far, save for just under a month's time. Damn, you're stupid, Anonymous.
But you saved the best for last. Have you watched Drunky in action at all over the last, say, four or five years? If you think he hasn't fallen off the wagon, then you're either blind or deluded. And if you need further evidence, how about the German beer in June of '07?
Sure, it's a low-alcohol beer, but I thought recovering alcoholics were supposed to abstain completely?Point is, all the evidence is there that he's back to his old drinking ways. Just Google it up and see what you find. The cover-up is in place, sure, but surely you've noticed his slurred words, his unsteady gait, his mysterious illnesses and absences ... or, like the mainstream corporate media, you choose to ignore them. And then there's the whole issue of him being a "dry drunk" ...
At any rate, "Anonymous" (if that is your real name), thanks for the comment, and thanks for stopping by Blast Off! Feel free to swing by again anytime you want to have your opinions dissected and denigrated for the amusement of the reality-based community.
