Random thought

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it ironic that Walmart, that right-wing, fundamentalist-driven organization, is the exclusive retailer of the new album by AC/DC, who gave us such, um, less-than-pious classics as "Highway to Hell" and "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap?"

Palin's chief qualification remains that she's hot

What is it about Republicans that makes them forget about the fact that someone -- say, their candidate for vice president of the United States -- is woefully, colossally unqualified for the position she seeks, yet they support her because of how she looks?

The latest example of this comes from the wingnut bastion of Pensacola, Fla., and it's not even Les Kinsolving this time! Forget about her batshit crazy fundie record, where she would deny a woman's right to terminate her pregnancy even when that pregnancy is caused by rape or incest, and where as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, she mandated that rape victims pay the cost of having evidence preserved ... nope, the important thing clearly is that she's just so goshdarn pretty.

In Pensacola, where McCain trained as a Navy pilot, Palin's fans packed the 8,100-seat Civic Center despite a daylong rain. Except for a strobe light, all the arena lights were turned off as Palin entered to the rock song Thunderstruck by AC/DC.

Introduced by Gov. Charlie Crist, Palin touted school choice and an energy plan that depended on "American energy resources."

She invoked former President Ronald Reagan and led the crowd in a chant of "USA-USA-USA."

"I didn't know anything about her when John McCain picked her," said Ed Shier, a 67-year-old Pensacola retiree. "But when I saw her today, I melted."

McCain and Palin will be depending on Shier and thousands like him in North Florida to help deliver the state.
"I melted." Great. If Huggy Bear and Clown Car win the election, you can count on a lot more melting ... like the polar ice caps ... and the U.S. economy ... and civil rights ...

(By the way, GOP, if you're going to introduce Sarah Palin with an AC/DC tune in the future, may I suggest something more apropos, like "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" ...)
