Today's sign of the apocalypse
With apologies to Sports Illustrated, the originator of the weekly "Sign of the Apocalypse," I really can't think of a more apt title for this post ... but have you ever heard of Affluence.org? Basically, it's Facebook for the obscenely wealthy -- and they don't try to hide their mission at all, as their entry page attests:
Pretty blatant, eh? If you make less than $300K or you're worth less than $3 mil, don't even bother to apply ... well, unless you can bring us five of those people! But you can apply for free -- proving that irony not only is not dead, it's jumping and skipping with glee.Anyway, if you aren't convinced yet, just look at all you can do with your membership!
Yeah, I know these folks have every right to network online, but in light of the current dire economic straits that we face in America today, this seems to be a particularly inappropriate time to have something like this going on ... it's almost as though they're celebrating their largesse and throwing it in the faces of the rest of us.Still, that's pretty much characteristic of Drunky McStagger's base, as he so gleefully reminded us by his notorious "haves and have-mores" remark. Really, the site ought to be called Effluent.org* ...
