When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way

Please forgive me a brief diversion from politics, but football season starts tomorrow! For me, anyway, as I'll be in Miami watching my beloved Buccaneers take on the Dolphins in a traditional preseason clash.

Of course, everything on Earth and in outer space must take a back seat to the Brett Favre saga, as he is preparing to take his first snaps as quarterback of the New York Jets.

Nothing bad can come from this, right? I mean, all the other NFL players who switched teams late in their careers for a "last hurrah" were enormously successful, right?

Who can forget, for example, Joe Namath of the Los Angeles Rams ...

... or Johnny Unitas of the San Diego Chargers ...

... or Seattle Seahawks running back Franco Harris ...

... not to mention fellow Seahawk Jerry Rice ...

... and Rice's pal Joe Montana of the Kansas City Chiefs ...

... or, of more recent vintage, Emmitt Smith of the Arizona Cardinals ...

Okay, granted, Montana took the Chiefs to the playoffs a couple of times and even made a Pro Bowl as a Chief. Still ... the history of late-career team changes isn't exactly stellar. Hell, there have been moves like this over the years in all the sports ... so I'm sure nothing will go wrong here.

But you go, Brett. "Brett the Jet." Yep, that's a match made in football heaven.

Yeah, right.
