Florida GOP Police Blotter update: Blowin' Bob goes procedural
First, Blowin' Bob Allen (R-Merritt Island) said he was "just playing along" when he offered to give an undercover officer $20 for the privilege of fellating him. Then, he explained that even though he did it, but it was because he was scared of the "stocky black guy."
Now, Blowin' Bob -- who really has never denied the underlying blow job-related offense -- brings out the ol' procedural defense:
State Rep. Bob Allen said in court filings that he wasn't informed of his rights before making statements to police after he was arrested and charged with soliciting prostitution.I'll be keeping an eye open for Allen's book, If I Did It, Here's How It Happened.
Allen's attorney is trying to have some statements the Merritt Island Republican made to police thrown out. Allen denies wrongdoing and has vowed to fight the charges.
Attorney Greg Eisenmenger said Allen was never informed of his Miranda rights to remain silent until he was booked into the jail, after which police asked no more questions.
"They probably got everything that they wanted to illegally, so why bother to do it legally?" Eisenmenger told the Orlando Sentinel. He said Allen asked several times to speak to a lawyer but officers continued to question him before he was allowed to contact his attorney.
