T-shirt wisdom

There are certain sentiments that really ought to be kept to one's self. Unfortunately, and especially in the case of the most rabid fundies, some people can't resist foisting their narrow-minded and logically ludicrous opinions on others via that ubiquitous message board, the T-shirt.

Here's one I saw tonight in Deerfield Beach, Florida:

Dear God,
Why do you allow so much violence in our schools?
Signed, Concerned Student

Dear Concerned Student,
I'm not allowed in the schools.
Signed, God
Setting aside for the moment my first thought -- of all people/deities, wouldn't God be the one you definitely could count on to sign off with "Love?" -- I don't think it would be possible to obscure the issue much more.

The U.S. Constitution says (or at least it did, before the Bush crime syndicate used it to wipe their collective asses) that there will be no law "respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Look, folks, God is present in the schools. Ever been around a group of students before a big test? Seriously, the issue is not barring God or religion from schools altogether -- rather, the law prohibits organized religious activity in schools.

Besides, how does God "allow" violence in schools? I never understood that whole concept: did God "allow" the Holocaust, or 9/11, or Katrina? If this God is so wonderful, wouldn't He or She find a way to prevent harm to people?

That's probably a deeper issue than I intended to address from a mere T-shirt. But we in the reality-based community never can forget what we're up against.
