I suck at predictions
Six months (or one Friedman Unit) ago today, I said:
John McCain [now Huggy Bear -- ed.] has two major problems dogging him right now. First, he's tied himself inextricably to the sinking political carcass of Drunky McStagger and the increasingly unpopular illegal "war" in Iraq, and second, McCain's basically a jerk ...Well, Huggy and Drunky are still BFFs, and Huggy's still a colossal asshole. Other than that, though, well, my crystal ball was a little smudged that day, I guess.
There's a lot to be said about retiring "on top," before one's skills have diminished. If you play too long, you run the risk of tarnishing your legacy. Remember Willie Mays as a New York Met in 1973 ...? Or Johnny Unitas as a San Diego Charger that same year ...? At some point, it just becomes embarrassing.
You're embarrassing yourself, Sen. McCain. Accept that you will never be president. Quit now and try to retain some dignity.
Anyway, you know what they say: if you can't laugh at yourself, you're a douchebag. Or something like that.
Oh, and take the Giants and the points. Trust me.
